Junior Recital Poster
- Assignment- This is a poster I created for a friends Junior Music Recital. The theme of the recital was "La Vie en Rose", which is French for "Life in Pink".
- Target Audience- I wanted to target this poster to Carthage students. I wanted to attract students who are interested in music, specifically females, due to the theme of the show.
- Insight (what you observed)- While creating this, I learned that research is critical even in a simple poster design. I began design without a plan, which lead to failed attempts at portraying the theme. After planning out a grid and finding a main image to fit along with it, I was capable of creating a successful piece.
- Approach (get analytical)- I began with creating a grid in order to organize the information I needed to convey. I wanted to give off a modern-day French feel by incorporating the French scenery and boxy, geometric shapes. I think the contrast of the historic Effil Tower combined with the geometric shapes its eye-capturing.
- The idea (heart of it all)- Overall, I wanted to create a poster that not only resembled my friend (a lover of pink and France), but that also drew the eyes of students. The combination of friendly typeface and pink photograph fits the personality of the recital and the theme: "Life in Pink".
- Why it works- The geometric shapes are bold enough to immediately draw the eye, especially to "La Vie en Rose" due to the decorative typeface. The combination of the bright colored background with subtle, yet captivating (different language) text fits well with the theme of the show. The combination of modern day college student with a french feminine flare is apparent through the color, shape and photo.
- What I learned- I learned a lot about the planning process. At first, this poster seemed simple. I overlooked the planning process and created an unsuccessful poster. When starting from scratch, planning out a grid, theme, idea, and focus, I was able to create a poster that is eye-capturing and successful for the event.
