After BMA- Answer the following questions on your blog:
1) Overall observations of the night? (did it go well?)
I found this experience very helpful. I gained a lot of insight on how to structure my resume, which was probably the most helpful part. Some people had negative things to say about my resume, but most people gave honest criticism that will help improve my resume. Many people mentioned changing interview answers and resumes to fit the specific job/job description. Overall, I gained a lot of valuable information that will help me in my job search.
2) What was one interview question that caught you off guard?
I was asked "What is one of your weaknesses?" I practiced this question, however it is difficult to explain. The woman interviewing me told me to elaborate on an over-used strength that could be considered a weakness, which was a good tip. She also mentioned to clarify my awareness of my weakness and how I plan to work on improving it.
3) Was there anything you wish you would have done/practiced more before this event?
I think I was pretty much fully prepared for the event. I think my resume could be updated and re-worded based on their comments, but besides that I was very prepared. The mock interviews and resume critiques allowed me to be confident with everything I presented to the reviewers.
4) What is one thing you learned from this evening, that would help your fellow graphic designers in their job hunt?
The most important thing I learned was how to describe your previous jobs in your resume. Instead of listing your everyday duties in a specific position, write about your accomplishments. Elaborate on big projects and accomplishments at your internship or job. Anyone can aid a design team or learn software, but make your self stand out by focusing on big clients you worked with or projects you completed.
